Pray About It!

Pray About It!
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel 23:2, “Therefore David inquired of the Lord, saying, ‘Shall I go and attack these Philistines?’ And the Lord said to David, ‘Go and attack the Philistines, and save Keilah.’”
It was Saul’s job to protect Israel. He’s the King but he’s not doing a good job. He’s not thinking of protecting other lives. He’s thinking of his own political future and jealous of David replacing him.

David became the deliverer, even though he was not the King yet. He was the King in waiting. David is the one who saved Keilah.

I love how David first prayed. “Lord, is this something you want me to do?” Instead of saying, “Look, I just have to do it. The enemies attacking, David was presented with a need and there’s lots of needs. The world is full of them but just because there’s a need, doesn’t mean you are called to meet the need, nor does it mean that you are not called to meet the need. You have to inquire of the Lord. If God brings it to your attention, maybe you’re the one that he wants to use to meet the need but you’re gonna have to ask the Lord about that.

I love how David inquired Gods will and the Lord spoke. It’s a good habit to bring everything before the Lord. Ask God before you make a decision.

It’s best practice to begin seeking God’s advice first, above all else.

I love how Luke 5:16 tells us that, “Jesus often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.”

If Jesus made it a priority to pray, it is very important that we do also!
