1 Samuel 22:2, "And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him."

All of the men who came to David were either in distress, in debt or discontented. This was a pretty motley crew yet after hanging out with David, this crew became mighty conquerors and warriors, bold, courageous and victorious in battle in God's army!

How do you go from being discontented and discouraged and in debt to mighty? By hanging out with the King in his presence. Learn from him, watch him, abide with the king and you'll become like the king.

This was one of Chuck Smiths go-to verses to describe the Jesus movement. He called all the hippies who he was discipling to be pastors, His mighty men who were once in distress, in debt and discontented in life. God is all about getting this kind of person and making them kingdom material. Just hang out with the king and you'll be transformed to be the Lord Jesus' mighty men and women.
