Thermometer or Thermostat?

Thermometer or Thermostat?
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel 21:13, “So he changed his behavior before them, pretended madness in their hands, scratched on the doors of the gate, and let his saliva fall down on his beard.”
When you go into the world and you get around worldly people, sometimes you are afraid of being the Christian that you are and can be tempted to change your behavior. You can be tempted to play the Christian only when you’re with Christians and not act like a believer among unbelievers.

But God wants us to be a thermostat, not a thermometer. A thermometer goes up and down as it just registers whatever the temperature is in the environment. If the environment is hot, it reads hot. If the environment is cold, it reads cold. If unbelievers are this way, that’s how you act if you’re a thermometer. You’re like a chameleon changing to blend into the environment around you.

But A thermostat sets the temperature. You go in there unashamed this is who I am. I love Jesus and follow Him! This is what I believe and I am not going to change. Be a thermostat in this dark world.
