Why we give.
WE GIVE because GOD GAVE FIRST!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that HE GAVE His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of your income, isn't merely giving something to God. It's giving back what was His to begin with. A tithe is an act of worship. In fact let me tell you this, if you ever feel pressure to give don’t do it! God doesn’t need your money, He wants your heart. If you don’t give cheerfully and joyfully you miss the point. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from God. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything. It teaches us to always put God first in our lives. God is a giver and God is generous and He wants us to be generous. Ever time I give I become more like Jesus. Everytime I give I break the grip of materialism in my life. And everytime I give my heart grows bigger. Everything we have is a gift from God. You say I work hard for my money, sure you do! But who gave you the ability to work Hard. Who gave you your mind, hands and life? Who gave you the breath you have? Who gave you the opportunities? Duet. 8:18 says it is God who gives you the ability to produce wealth. It all starts with God and it all comes from God. God says here is what I want you to do. Go ahead and put me to the test. I dare you, Here is what I want you to do, bring me your tithe 10% and I will pour out a blessing on your life. I don't look of tithing as I cant believe it is 10%, I think of it as how I get to keep 90%! God is so generous! Imagine if someone gives you a piece of gum and you get to keep 90% of the piece and they only get 10%! Your definatly getting the better part of the deal! A lot of us tip more than we give God and He has given His whole life to serve us and bless us!
Tithing is a statement of 3 things
#1. Statement of gratitude = God I wouldn’t have anything without you
#2. Statement of priority = God I want to prove your 1st in my life so I am giving you the first part of my money
#3. It’s a statement of faith = God I believe you will keep your promise. If I put you first, you will take care of all my needs.
"Beyond the tithe" is anything you give beyond 10%. In Malachi 3:10, God says "Go ahead. I dare you. See if you can out-give me." Beyond the tithe is a chance for you to be extravagantly generous. So go ahead, test and experience God's generosity! The bible encourages us to give beyond the tithe, but we don’t do it out of guilt or pressure. We do it as an expression of worship. In fact let me tell you this, if you ever feel pressure to give don’t do it! God doesn’t need your money, he wants your heart. If you don’t give cheerfully and joyfully you miss the point. Many people misunderstand the habit of tithing and giving. If Jesus is Lord of my life He is going to be Lord of my time, Lord of my relationships, and Lord of my money. Have you ever wondered why tithing is so important to God? God is the creator of the universe, He doesn’t need money. The truth is tithing is not for God’s benefit, giving is for our benefit. Its to teach me to trust God in many ways. The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your life. All the money, time, and resources we give are to be freely given, as the Spirit leads. God has given us everything we have; if He moves our hearts (Exodus 35:29), then we should cheerfully give (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Malachi 3:10
10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.
2 Corinthians 9:7
So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.
God is generous and He wants us to be as well.
The Bible teaches that Christians should give (1) regularly, (2) from the first part of our earnings, (3) in proportion to our income, (4) cheerfully, and (5) freely, not as a result of compulsion or pressure.
By giving you become part of God's provision and an answer to prayer as you participate helping the Gospel go forward in our community. May the Lord continue to bless you as you invest His resources into His Kingdom.
I would like to thank all of you who have supported the work of the ministry at Church at the Water Brooks! You have been generous with your offerings and for that we are grateful!
Our world is aching for hope. Young and old. Rich and poor. People everywhere around the world are desperate for the certain hope and everlasting love that only Jesus can offer.
As we unite to help more people learn, love and live God’s Word, souls will be saved and God will be glorified. So thank you for your gifts to help reach our world for Jesus!
