Is it ok to lie?

Is it ok to lie?
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel 21:1, “So David said to Ahimelech the priest, ‘The king has ordered me on some business, and said to me, ‘Do not let anyone know anything about the business on which I send you, or what I have commanded you.’ And I have directed my young men to such and such a place. Now therefore, what have you on hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand, or whatever can be found.’”

David lies to the priest because the king didn’t send him on a secret mission. We will see his lying will bring about deadly consequences in 1 Sam. 22:18-19. David’s lies cause the death of not only 85 priests but the entire city of Knob men, women and kids and it’s a good reminder that there are huge consequences for sin.

Galatians 6:7, “Don’t be deceived, God’s not mocked, for whatever we sow we’re going to reap. If we sow to the flesh, we’re going to reap destruction if we sow to the spirit we’re going to reap everlasting life.

Lying is a sin that David commits, and we will see it brings great consequences.
In the world today, lying is so common but for us as believers, it’s never okay to lie and never a good idea.

Satan is called the father of lies in John 8:44.

Revelation 21:8 says, “All liars shall have their part in the lake of fire.” Lying is a serious thing.

God said it’s sin to lie and to bear false witness. It’s the 9th of the Ten Commandments.
