Taking Ownership

Taking Ownership
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel 22:22, “So David said to Abiathar, ‘I knew that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I have caused the death of all the persons of your father’s house.’”

David said this was all my fault, even though Saul was the one who gave the order, David took the blame. Why? Because David knew that because of his sin, his lie, He said, “I’m here on official royal business,” and the priest didn’t believe David. He took the bread, took the sword, got out of the situation, took provisions, and left.

David realized, because of my sin, because of my folly, my sin had affected other people. It was always that way. Your actions always affect other people. For better or for worse. Good actions or bad actions. You never sin or do anything isolated, on an island. Our sin always affects others. David realized there are severe consequences to sin.

In Romans 3, we’re told, “The wages of sin is death.” David took ownership of his sin in verse 22 by saying I have caused the death of all of the persons of your father’s house.
