Jars of Clay

Jars of Clay
by: Pastor David Wood

2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

I love these verses and have written them on my heart for memory. They speak to the inadequacy I feel, being an eternal soul living in a finite flesh body. A "jar of clay" if you will.
We are fragile and easily broken. I see my shortcomings on a daily basis and like the Bible says, all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. In my strength and abilities, that is my story without God. It is all of our stories. But there is great news.

It is not about us. It is all about God and what Jesus did for us. It is all in His power, His strength and His sacrifice, because of the great love God has for us all.

Our life here in the flesh is temporary but our life when we leave this jar of clay and are face to face with our Savior, well that is eternal. Then we will see all God has made us to be and will finally be home. I can't wait!
