Biblical Prophecy

Biblical Prophecy
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

Luke 2:1 1, “And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.”

A decree was a law and order that all the people had to obey. Caesar Augustas ordered the whole world to go back to their hometown to be registered and counted for a census.
This meant that Joseph and Mary had to go on a trip to Bethlehem. They were living in Nazareth at this time which was 80 miles away from Bethlehem. That’s like traveling from Boise to McCall, Idaho.

Remember, Mary was 9 months pregnant and about to have a Baby! That would be a very uncomfortable trip!

This Christmas story wasn’t Mary and Joseph’s idea of how they wanted to welcome their first child into the world but it was part of a much bigger plan.

This trip was actually all apart of God’s plan because 700 years before Jesus was born, the Bible predicted in Micah 5:2 that Jesus would be born in Bethlehem. God worked out the decree to register all the people for His good to get Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem to fulfill Biblical prophecy!
