Disappointed in the hand you were dealt?

Disappointed in the hand you were dealt?
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

2 Samuel 18:17-19 Then Saul said to David, “Here is my older daughter Merab; I will give her to you as a wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the Lord’s battles.” For Saul thought, “Let my hand not be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him.” So David said to Saul, “Who am I, and what is my life or my father’s family in Israel, that I should be son-in-law to the king?” But it happened at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David, that she was given to Adriel the Meholathite as a wife.

Saul, instead of giving his daughter to David like he promised, gave her to another guy. Talk about disappointment. Imagine...It’s your wedding day, you’re getting married to the King’s daughter... just kidding, they’re giving her to another guy. That would be so disappointing. You’re excited to get married and she goes to another guy on your wedding day.

How do we respond to disappointment? How do we respond when things don’t work out the way you thought they were going to work out? Sometimes we wonder what’s the plan of God in this?

We will see in the continuing verses this week that David decided to trust God in his hard situation and not be moved. He knew God would work it out for his good.
