Remain in the Vine

Remain in the Vine
by: Pastor David Wood
John 15:4-6 NIV
“Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.”
The garden is such a great place for lessons about being productive and fruitful. Weeds are like sin that creep into our lives and steal away from the good God is doing. I cannot work in the garden without it showing me lessons on life. Weeds have no useful purpose in our gardens and sin has no useful purpose in our lives but to steal away.
In this text, we are reminded about how we must remain in our vine, Jesus, to grow, mature and bear much fruit. We are also seriously reminded what happens to us when we let things in life get between us and our walk with the Lord. Our walk withers and we begin to die spiritually.
We much choose to live differently, choose the things of the Spirit and die to the things of the flesh, daily. Whichever one we are feeding will grow. It is an intentional choice that involves our freewill, over and over again.
I have included a visual to show you what happens to us when we choose the flesh over the Spirit. Look, consider and choose well. Feed the flesh or feed the Spirit?
