A Wandering Walk

A Wandering Walk
by: Pastor David Wood
Proverbs 4:18-19 NIV - The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
2 Corinthians 4:4 NIV - The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
I have two pups, Buster and Munchy. Buster is about 9 years old and Munchy is about a year and 8 months. Munchy is “officially” my wife’s dog and Buster is mine but I spend the most time with them both, I just do not walk Munchy very often. That is Denice’s main job with him.
Now Buster has some physical issues going on these past couple years that have slowed him down quite a bit. He was diagnosed with diabetes and over time, it has affected his eyesight as cataracts have slowly developed.
I don’t think he sees much detail anymore but can make our dark and light changes. Like he can tell the difference between the grass and the sidewalk. That is not a problem. But what is a problem is that he cannot tell the subtle difference like where the edge of the curb is. Because of this, I have to watch him closely. If he is on the grass and there is a hole coming up, he will not see it.
You would not know that Buster does not see well as he still wants to lead and I let him. I just watch him closely. He wanders all over the sidewalk from side to side and it can be annoying as I have to avoid stepping on him or getting tripped up on the leash.
One of those times when I was getting a little frustrated with him, God spoke to my heart and just reminded me that he can’t see where he is going. Then God made it more personal.
I was reminded that just like these verses say that we read today, people without Jesus are just wandering around blind, not knowing where they are going. Trying this, feeling for that. And yet, I can tend to lose patience with people that just have no way of seeing because they are walking in spiritual darkness.
When we stop and realize that, it should shift our hearts from frustration to compassion for them and maybe even to prayer. Just like Buster, they just can’t see right now and we need to keep shining our light their way.
