Pick Up Your Sword

1 Samuel 21:8, “And David said to Ahimelech, ‘Is there not here on hand a spear or a sword? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.’ So the priest said, ‘The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, there it is, wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you will take that, take it. For there is no other except that one here.’ And David said, ‘There is none like it; give it to me.’”
Not only is David supplied with food but the priest supplies him with a sword also. It’s Goliaths sword that brought that huge victory for Israel. The sword he used to cut off the giant’s head with.
The Bible tells us in Hebrews 4:12, “The word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
I love how David goes into the house of the Lord and is sustained and protected just like we are sustained and protected through the word of God and by the sword of the Spirit. We should leave church equipped and ready for the battle that’s outside as you learn how to handle the sword God has given us to fight.
