Beauty, Brains and a Bad Boy with Big Bucks

1 Samuel 25:3, “The name of the man was Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance; but the man was harsh and evil in his doings. He was of the house of Caleb.”
Nabal, I doubt, was the name his parents gave him. It was a nickname that he had because the word Nabal is a Hebrew word for fool. He had that reputation. He lived up to it. In scripture, the word fool refers to somebody who is morally not all there.
Psalm 14:1, “The fool has said in his heart, there is no God.”
Given the evidence, it is so foolish to say there is no God. He didn’t do what was right over and over again.
Abigail’s name in Hebrew means “joy of the father, my father’s joy,” and she was a woman of good understanding and beautiful appearance. Next to Abigail’s name, I have Shawna’s name written in my Bible because she is a woman of understanding and of beautiful appearance.
So you couldn’t have two more opposite people getting married. A bad man with big bucks and a beautiful gal with brains. They do say opposites attract.
We might scratch our head and think how did they get together? I think we can excuse her because she lived in a day of arranged marriages. She probably didn’t choose the man she was going to marry as her parents chose the man probably because he had money. Her dad’s thinking he’ll provide wealth for my daughter but they didn’t care if he was a man of good character.
