Conviction

Conviction
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel

1 Samuel, 24:5 “Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. ‘ And he said to his men, ‘The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.’”

David crept alongside of Saul and he cut off a piece of his robe but right after he cut his robe he was convicted.

How thankful I am for the conviction of the Holy Spirit which helps to guide and direct us in the way that we should go. Have you ever felt that conviction of the Lord when He just speaks to you?

We see how sensitive David’s heart was to God. This shows us David had a tender and sensitive heart to God. And that’s a good thing. It’s good to be sensitive toward good and evil as well as right and wrong.

Some people are insensitive and nothing bothers them. The Bible speaks about those whose conscience is seared with a hot iron in 1 Timothy 4:2. They’re cauterized. They don’t feel the weight of sin anymore. That’s not good. If you can sin and you no longer sense a conviction of God’s voice speaking to you, that is not a good place to be.

We gain a sensitivity to God’s Spirit by spending a quality amount of time with Him through prayer and His Word. We need to be sensitive to His voice above all others.

Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice and they know me and follow Me.”
