Beware of Other Voices

1 Samuel 24:4, “Then the men of David said to him, ‘This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you!’ And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.”
You’ll notice that David’s men said to David, God is giving you the opportunity to kill the man who’s trying to kill you. David’s men were counseling him, saying this is God, you should take vengeance on him. It would be very easy to give in to that kind of peer pressure.
When you get counsel from people, you have to be very careful and make sure it is biblically accurate council.
It reminds me of Pontius Pilate and how he knew Jesus was innocent and wanted to let him go. But it says in the Gospel of Luke that the voices of the people and of the chief priests prevailed. Their peer pressure moved Pilate in his decision making!
David didn’t listen to them, instead of taking his life, he cut off a little section of his robe and David’s men said let’s kill Saul and move this party from the caves to the throne room.
It sounds good except for one problem, God never said what David’s men told him.
I want you to notice that because so often friends of ours, well-meaning people who love us and love the Lord, will give us advice and their advice can sound good but it’s not always God plan and will for us. Be careful to listen to the voice of God over man.
