Courage
by: Pastor Ryan Scheibel
1 Samuel 17:42-45 And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking. So the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. And the Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
Somebody once said, courage is just fear that has said its prayers. I think he probably went out there gulping but praying at the same time! But he says, I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts. If you’re going to slay giants, you need a healthy respect for the size of your God. When God is magnified, fears go away. Paul said, I magnify Him in my body. He was confident not in his own abilities but in God’s abilities and power. He knew that true victory came from God.
1 John 4:4, “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
