1 Samuel 17:19-24 Now Saul and they and all the men of Israel were in the Valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. So David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with a keeper, and took the things and went as Jesse had commanded him. And he came to the camp as the army was going out to the fight and shouting for the battle. For Israel and the Philistines had drawn up in battle array, army against army. And David left his supplies in the hand of the supply keeper, ran to the army, and came and greeted his brothers. Then as he talked with them there was the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, coming up from the armies of the Philistines; and he spoke according to the same words. So David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.

As David showed up, he heard Goliath mocking the God of Israel. The God that David loved so deeply. And all the men of Israel were “dreadfully afraid” which means to be overcome with fear. They were crippled and paralyzed by fear of Goliath.

David rose early in the morning and it shows the heart of David and how he will have the faith in God to take on Goliath.

Psalm 119:147, “I Rise before the dawning of the morning and I cry for help I hope in your word.” David was an early riser to cry out for God’s help in prayer and sought God’s help in his word.

It’s so important to become early risers if we want to defeat the Goliaths in our life.

“Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” Benjamin Franklin
