1 Samuel 17:11, “When Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.”
When all of Israel saw and heard Goliath, they were dismayed and greatly afraid! That word dismayed means they were like a piece of rope unraveling. Saul and his men stared at the giant in fear, paralyzed and feeling defeated and they haven’t even fought yet.
Maybe you feel defeated, fearful and intimidated. Thankfully, we have someone greater than Goliath. He is Jesus, our Hero, who wants to help us walk in victory!
Remember in Joshua 1, it says Joshua got scared and began to get dismayed. But God kept reminding him three times to be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go! Remember that God will be with you ever step of the way!
Another important leadership principle that we see here is that when the leader is afraid, everyone else you are leading will be afraid too. It says Saul was dismayed and afraid and then all of Israel was also. Whatever is happening in us, it will spread down to those under us. If we are afraid, our children will be afraid too. If you’re fearless, your children and those under your leadership will be fearless. If you’re bold, those who you lead will be bold too.
